  • What are Diarrhea and Dehydration?

    Diarrhea means soft and watery stools more than three times a day, and may be accompanied by cramps, nausea and vomiting. Diarrhea is not a disease, but a symptom of disorders that can be caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites, food intolerances, certain medications and disorders that affect the stomach, small intestine or colon. During diarrhea, there is a greater loss of water and electrolytes. Dehydration is a condition in which a person loss more fluids than the necessary to maintain a correct functioning of the organism. It is a complication that is usually caused by episodes of acute diarrhea and / or vomiting.

  • What are the Symptoms of Dehydration?

    The Symptoms vary in intensity and nature depending on the degree of dehydration that a person is exposed to. During mild to moderate dehydration the most frequent symptoms are: increased thirst, dry mouth, tired or sleepy, decreased urine output and change of color (urine is more yellowish than normal), dizziness, headache, dry skin, few or no tears. In case of severe dehydration the symptoms are: delirium, shock, sinking of the eyes, tachycardia and anuria.

  • How to Treat Dehydration?
